Rebate Programs Aren’t The Problem…

Not using your data to drive the rebate program is the problem

Lately, we’ve had an unusually high number of companies reach out, requesting a review of our reward technology platform and services as they consider whether to continue with their existing rebate programs, some of which have been in place for many years.

As we discuss each company’s unique needs, a common theme emerges... "We want to look at a program that makes better use of our sales data and has features like year-over-year sales growth tiers, customizable account-based offers, etc. The rebate program we’ve been running for the last XX years doesn’t do any of that."

Based on this, it seems as though some people feel the type of rewards being used in a program (i.e., rebates) are the problem, but the real issue is that the rebate program doesn’t use the company’s sales data as its playbook and doesn’t employ proactive and dynamic program offers to each participant for optimal engagement and results.

Rebates aren’t the problem; not using sales data effectively to guide the rebate program is the problem.

A good B2B program should offer users as many relevant reward choices as possible, because different people are motivated by very different things. So, don’t limit your program’s appeal with a narrow reward array. By all means, include cash rebates as part of your program alongside other popular reward options as well. But no matter what reward options you include (rebates, points, etc.), be sure and use your historical sales data to structure and guide your program use.
